Five Tips on Decoration Colors to Banish Winter Blues!
You probably already know that letting in some natural light will help to banish the winter blues. Around this time of year, seasonal affective disorder really takes hold and tries to get us down. But letting in the sunlight is not the only way to help life your spirits. The things around you can have an impact on how you feel in the midst of winter. Is your interior dim, decorated with dark colors and heavy furnishings? Brighten up your home decor to help banish the winter blues. We are not talking about anything extravagant here, just fast, easy and cheap tips to lift your mood for winter.
Paint the walls in a refreshing hue. Freshly painted walls are always refreshing; they can give new life to a dingy room. During the winter, it can be tempting to choose dark colors and boring neutrals for your interior walls. Instead, choose a bright, cheerful color and use less bold colors for your accessories.
Bring your home to life with plants. Live plants provide fresh air to a stale home interior. Choose plants that do well indoors during the winter, or even throughout the year.. If you cannot have real plants for any reason, consider decorating with artificial flowers in bright, cheerful colors instead.
Change out accessories for brighter pieces. The cheapest way to change up the mood in your home is to change out accessories with the seasons--or whenever you feel like it. Swap out deep, fall decor for brighter accessories in turquoise, yellow or violet. When you grow tired of looking at these colors, pack them up and redecorate with another hue.
Add some sparkle to the decor. Shiny things make us feel happy, right? So, bring sparkle into the interior decor with anything that is shiny and pretty. Mirrors are a great addition to your wall hangings. Crystal and glass vases are pretty accessories for the side tables. Don't over-bedazzle your home, though--just a little sparkle here and there will do just fine.
Bring color into your reading nook. An overstuffed chair and a softly lit lamp in the corner of a room are perfect for snuggling up and getting lost in your favorite novel. Brighten up your reading nook to help lift your mood by incorporating a brightly colored throw blanket or squishy pillow into this area of the home.
