How Do You Know You Have the Wrong Self Image?
Your self-image is the internal mirror which you use to identify the ‘good’ and ‘bad’ attributes you think you do or don’t have. Often your self-image will be shaped by what you learned about yourself as a child by your parents, care takers, family or friends. A toddler hears an average of 400 no’s per day. Later on, you get exposed to more ‘opinions’ by work peers, clients, and other connections you meet in life. You can only imagine how this could impact anybody’s self-esteem and self-image causing self-defeating thoughts and sabotaging your own success just because your subconscious allowed many opinion coming from other relationships to sink in.
In reality these opinions may be so false in descripting what your true self-concept is. Only you are the only one capable to lay a mark of what is or is not justified about who you are. So you would be able to really assess whether the people around you have caused you to actually mis-shape your true self-image you need to keep a watch if you have any of these warning signs:
Warning Signs that You Are Building a False Self-Image
- You are unhappy with your appearance
- You feel your income is way too low than your aspirations
- Having relationships around you which drag you down and make you constantly suffer
- When the impact and power of your business is not up to your expectations
- When you have trouble with your relationships – whether at home, or work.
- You complain all the time
- You’re indecisive about even the simplest things: What to eat, which movie to see, where you want to buy. When you use the word “I don’t know” or “Maybe” with little things this is an indicator that you can’t make decisions in larger and more significant areas.
- Can’t receive compliments: to the extent you may embarrass or frustrate somebody for giving you a compliment
- You do things you don’t want to do and don’t stand up for your opinions
- You Constantly compare yourself to people
- You often slip into being angry and in a bad mood, maybe depressed

- You don’t take care of yourself: sleep, eating and general health
